Text Box: A group of seven graders and their teachers 100+ strong participated in a three hour long hands on activities and science demonstration at the campus of NC A%T State University Marteena hall. The participants leaned a few things in general subjects such as sun-earth connection, space weather, space weather forecasting, spectroscopic technique, the origin of colors, Electromagnetic spectrum electromagnetic phenomenon, observational astronomy and material properties. The topics are chosen to match the North Carolina Course of Study for 7th grade science objectives 1.09 and 3.06. The students were divided in 5 groups with 20 students each, and rotated in 5 experimental stations. A physics professor and a student manned each station. A variety of demonstration equipment were used to show natural laws in action. The students also learned the operation of the equipment, and what safety procedures they must follow to operate the equipment, during observation of the sun. The generalized activities included Sun-Earth Connection, Optics, Electromagnetism Observational Astronomy, Superconductivity, materials, magnetic and non-magnetic materials, and principles of mechanics. The activities are consistent with Grade level 7th , North Carolina Course of Study, objectives 1.09 and 3.06

Grade level 7th

North Carolinal Course of Study Objectives

1.09 Use technologies and information systems to:

  • Research.
  • Gather and analyze data.
  • Visualize data.
  • Disseminate findings to others.

3.06 Assess the use of technology in studying atmospheric phenomena and weather hazards:

  • Satellites.
  • Weather maps.
  • Predicting.
  • Recording.
  • Communicating information about conditions.
