We are interested in understanding the dynamics/electrodynamics associated with the magnetosphere- ionosphere-thermosphere system (MITS), which can be studied by using ground-and space based observations of these regions. The study of the MITS under varying solar and geophysical conditions is extremely important with our increased dependence on satellite based communications and Geodesy. We are planning to install two ground based instruments, magnetometer and coherent receiver, at our university campus. The proposed graduate and undergraduate program will attack the problem related to magnetosphere- ionosphere coupling, study of E and F regions and its associated phenomena and will also assist in further development of the ground based instruments inside the university campus. Thus, by near-simultaneous measurements of all the relevant magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere parameters from the space based and ground based observations we hope to gain a significant advancement in our understanding of the MITS.
The Department of Physics of North Carolina A&T State University invites application for two suitable graduate candidates to apply for space/atmospheric Physics funded by NASA. The qualified candidates may travel within the US to collect data. The successful candidates can also participate in other funded projects and can get opportunities to do their research at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), NASA. The research activities include ground and space based observations and use of atmospheric models. We will also consider students interested in other space related disciplines such as Astrophysics, cosmology and observational astronomy. Senior undergraduate students majoring in STEM and related fields can also be considered for this opportunity.
Eligible candidate must have a strong background in his or her respective field and adequate physics and must show strong interest in Atmospheric Science, Space science, Geophysics Environmental Science, Oceanography, or Meteorology.
How To Apply:
Please send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, original transcripts, and three letters of references. Candidates must be officially admitted to NC A&T State University before they begin their research. New graduate applicants must follow the graduate application process.
